West End

The West End and Near West End

One of the neighborhoods that we work in is referred to as “the West End” and it covers a whole lot of territory! It covers, and used to cover, basically everything west of downtown… but that was a very 19th century perspective of the West End.

The West End is basically from 195 all the way out to the city line and into the county – into Short Pump and even a bit further west. In other words, West End Richmond covers A LOT of stuff.

However, West End in the city is made up of a number of different smaller neighborhoods that have different characteristics, closer to the river, etc. You have Windsor Farms, which was developed in the 1920’s, but did not develop robustly until after World War II. And because of the trolley line on Grove Avenue, going out to Grove, Three Chopt, and The University of Richmond, there are probably 20 different little subdivisions through there.

Hampton Gardens is one of the main neighborhoods there, on Roslyn and Oak with really beautiful houses. But there are also neighborhoods that have smaller houses along there.
